UC Press Foundation

As a separate 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, the UC Press Foundation raises funds to support UC Press and its vital role as an independent publisher. Donations from individuals and institutions—and readers like you— enable UC Press to champion new voices that move ideas and society forward, publish approximately 200 new books and 40+ multi-issue journals annually, maintain thousands of backlist titles in print, and offer the finest scholarship in digital formats—many of which are open access and free to readers worldwide. Donors to the Foundation enjoy special membership benefits and join a diverse community of Press enthusiasts.

Why Give?

Donors support bold, field-defining scholarship for the public good. Philanthropic gifts and grants are critical to UC Press, as earned revenue through book sales and journal subscriptions (accounting for approximately 82% of annual revenue) cannot cover its total operating expenses. Donations help underwrite the Press’s ability to publish scholars, activists, and thought leaders whose work defines the future of academic publishing—accessible, impactful, inclusive, and justice-driven.
